Mountain Photos From California and the Far Corners of the Globe

Over the millennia people have written endless tomes about mountains, so what does my diminutive website have to offer? Perhaps only a little but I’ll do my part. 

I’ve spent most of my life in pursuit of the sublime and beautiful. That quest has followed a number of directions, but exploring in the mountains has been the greatest joy of my life. It’s taken me to some of the furthest reaches on the planet such as the far away Aleutian Islands in the Bering Sea and to almost 27,000 feet in the Himalaya of Nepal. Mountaineering has always been a spiritual journey for me. In this pursuit one can leave the troubling and mundane world of the lower elevations behind and, ascending slowly, quietly and with purpose, climb into a realm that is pure and unambiguous because of its elemental beauty and dispassionate nature. The mountains don’t care if you live or die. They just are what they are. This awareness clears the mind and opens one up to experiences unavailable during other pursuits. Once the mind is clear and open, joy arises more easily, and can be sparked by many things such as an intensely saturated alpenglow painting the snowy mountains pink and orange, or the roar of an avalanche peeling off a hanging glacier and falling into the valley below, or the wonderful softness of lush grasses on one’s feet after a long hard day of hiking. It is these elemental experiences that have inspired my photography and I strive to embed them in my images so that you too may feel the joy.
