Landscape Photos of Big Sur

Fine Art Prints of Oceans

Who am I to write about oceans when the world’s greatest literary minds have been doing so for thousands of years? I’m just a man of average intelligence with a camera who can’t help being overcome with dreams of traveling beyond the horizon whenever he gazes out over the endless water. There is a longing that knows fulfillment is out there, if only one could go. Revelations are waiting. But I’ll probably not go today. Instead I’ll plant my tripod on the edge of a cliff and secure the camera on top of it. I’ll wait for the sun, long past setting, to paint the clouds, blown unimpeded all the way from east Asia, orange and pink and then press the shutter button. Or I might crawl down some slippery rocks to get closer to the water and set up there. Huge swells, created thousands of miles away by the winter winds coming out of Siberia, turn to waves as they approach the shore and crash into cliffs, exploding. Pure raging glory. Or I might sit down by some flowers and set the camera low to the ground to capture their beauty, softened by the never-ending wet wind. All these things are satisfying and the whole time I will have breathed the moist, rich-smelling ocean air.

Big Sur is a rugged and beautiful coastal region located in central California, stretching for approximately 90 miles (145 km) along the Pacific Ocean between Carmel and San Simeon. It is known for its dramatic coastline, towering redwood forests, stunning ocean views, and diverse wildlife.

Big Sur is home to several state parks, including Andrew Molera State Park, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park, which offer a range of outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and beachcombing. The region also boasts a number of scenic drives, including the famous Pacific Coast Highway, which winds through the mountains and along the ocean, offering breathtaking views of the coastline.

Despite its natural beauty, Big Sur is sparsely populated, with only a few small communities and rustic lodges scattered throughout the area. The isolation and tranquility of Big Sur have long attracted artists, writers, and other creative types seeking inspiration in its stunning natural surroundings.

All of our Big Sur Photos are available for purchase. We offer a variety of different print types including TruLife acrylic, Chromalux metal, silver halide paper, Giclee canvas, and more.
